Dr.Omkumar Krishnan
Professor Marketing Management
Omkumar Krishnan is Professor Marketing at IIM Kozhikode. He is currently the Area Chair of Marketing Management and is Chairperson Student Affairs at IIM K. A PhD & MPhil from IIT, Bombay, he specializes in the area of qualitative and quantitative marketing research and has earlier worked with Drishti Strategic Research Services and Lowe Lintas, Bombay. He takes courses on Consumer Behaviour, Marketing Research, Relationship Marketing and Marketing of Services. He was earlier Conference Coordinator of International Conference on Brand Management organized at IMT Ghaziabad in 2008 and 2010. His current research interest areas are destination branding, human sexuality, country of destination effect & consumer socialization and regularly present research papers at International Conferences.
At IIMK he organizes MDPs and FDPs relating to Branding of Educational Institutions and business research methodology. He has publications in The International Journal of Management Education, Indian Journal of Regional Science, ICFAI Journal of Marketing Management and Sociological Bulletin. His recent consultancy assignments were Capacity Building for TEQIP institutes, Consumer Patronage for MILMA and Brand Identity for Premium Transmission Limited Pune. Omkumar is also Visiting Faculty of Marketing Research at Chonnam National University, Gwangju, South Korea (2010).

Emerging Work Trends in Urban IndiaCOVID-19 and Beyond

This book offers an overview of India’s emerging digital economy and the resulting challenges and opportunities for urban workplaces. It examines contemporary economic and social transformations in India by focusing on how new technologies and policies are shaping urban work practices and patterns. The book emphasizes inclusive and equitable practices that consider the needs of the formal and informal sector workforce as essential to India’s urban development. Drawing on cross-disciplinary frameworks, it examines key issues related to work trends in the Indian urban economy and its digital landscapes, including Industry 4.0 and technology–labour nexus, smart cities and innovation, urbanism and consumerism, workplace transitions such as service industry and remote work, digital divide, skill development initiatives, and the impact of socio-economic inequalities and disruptions. The authors provide perspectives on the digital future of urban work in India and other emerging economies in the post-COVID-19 phase, and underscore the importance of enacting balanced policies, remodelling institutions, and equipping the labour force for adapting to new demands related to future employability and investments.
